Week Nine of Strictly Come Dancing was a tough one for musician and author Tom Fletcher, with the McFly star and his professional dance partner Amy Dowden ending up joint bottom fo the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard in Musicals Week.

The Strictly Come Dancing songs and dances had previously revealed that Tom and Amy would be performing a Couple’s Choice dance to On My Own from Les Misérables.

But the judges were tough on Tom, criticising his routine for a lack of emotion – still, it wasn't all bad news, with big-screen Les Misérables star Russell Crowe making a surprise cameo via a pre-recorded video call to show his support for Tom.

Here's everything you need to know about Tom Fletcher – one of the contestants in the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 line-up.

Who is Tom Fletcher?

Tom Fletcher is an author, composer, musician, singer and songwriter.

He is one of the lead vocalists and rhythm guitarist of English pop rock band McFly, alongside Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd.

Alongside his music career, Tom is also one of the UK’s bestselling authors for children, with his books, including The Christmasaurus, The Creakers and There’s a Monster in Your Book, going on to be translated into over 30 languages.

Tom's fellow group member Harry Judd famously won the ninth series of Strictly in 2011, so could Tom follow in his footsteps and take home the Glitterball this year? Only time will tell. Either way, Tom is wary about Harry's Strictly advice, saying: "I don’t know whether I should trust his advice or if he is trying to secretly steer me in the wrong direction because he’s quite competitive."

Tom was announced as part of the Strictly line-up on Wednesday 4th August during an episode of The One Show.

Speaking of his new signing, he said: I think the fact that I’m actually going to be dancing on Strictly this year has only just started to sink in while I’m writing this! I’m incredibly excited, of course, but also totally terrified!

"My kids were excited too until I started showing them my best dad-dancing in the kitchen. I’m not sure how far they’ll get me in the competition but I can’t wait to add some new moves to my embarrassing dad-dancing repertoire.”

We'll see how Tom's Strictly journey continues when he takes to the dance floor to be judged again. What will he have planned for his comeback?
